Grand Jury Indicts Beale Street Security Guard on Aggravated Assault Charge
MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Thursday that the state Grand Jury for Shelby County had returned a criminal indictment against a security guard for allegedly assaulting a man who was visiting the Beale Street entertainment district last August.

The Grand Jury indicted Dray Davis, 22, on one count of aggravated assault.

According to the affidavit of complaint filed in this case, the incident occurred on August 3, 2007 near the corner of Third Street and Beale. According to the affidavit, the defendant and the victim, David Hamilton, got into a verbal confrontation, which turned physical. The victim was dropped to the ground, the affidavit reads, and suffered multiple rib fractures and a skull fracture.

Memphis police arrested Davis on August 4, 2007. He is out of custody on $25,000 bond. An arraignment date has not been set.

Aggravated assault is a class C felony, for which the standard sentence is 3-6 years in prison.
