Grand Jury Indicts Four Co-Defendants for Murder of University of Memphis Football Player
MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Thursday that the state Grand Jury for Shelby County indicted four co-defendants for the murder of a University of Memphis football player last September. The Grand Jury indicted Courtney Washington, 23, Victor Trezevant, 21, Daeshawn Tate, 22, and Devin Jefferson, 21, each for first degree murder in the perpetration of attempted robbery.
According to the affidavit of complaint filed in this case, on September 30, 2007 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Taylor Bradford, 21, was shot and killed while inside his vehicle on Tiger Paw East which is located on the campus of the University of Memphis. Bradford was a student athlete who lived on campus. The Shelby County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Bradford’s death a homicide.
Memphis police arrested the four co-defendants on October 7, 2007. Each defendant is being held in the Shelby County Jail on at least $1 million bond. Arraignment dates have not been set.
First degree murder is punishable by life in prison with the possibility of parole after 51 years, life in prison without parole, or death. First degree murder is a charge covered by the D.A.’s “No Deals” policy on violent crimes. Exceptions to the policy are made only for legal or ethical reasons.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Reggie Henderson and Ray Lepone, who are assigned to the D.A.’s Gang and Narcotics Prosecution Unit. |
