MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney General Bill Gibbons announced this week the appointment of four new staff members to the District Attorney’s Office, three of whom have years of experience in their respective careers. Paul Boyd has been appointed as the Human Resources Manager for the D.A.’s Office. Boyd has more than 20 years of human resource management experience in both the private and public sector. He most recently served as the administrator of human resources for Shelby County Government. In that position, which he held for two years, Boyd directed the daily operations of all programs for more than 6,600 county government employees. Boyd also held the position of director of human resources for Carreker Corporation (formerly Check Solutions). While the president of his own firm, Paul Boyd and Associates, Boyd provided human resource services for several businesses including Promus Hotel Corporation (now Hilton Hotels), Harrah’s Casinos, Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, Memphis Light Gas & Water, and Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation. Prior to that, Boyd held human resource director or manager positions at Fitzgerald’s Casino, Holiday Inn Worldwide, and Schering-Plough Consumer Operations. Boyd earned an M.B.A. in management and a bachelor’s degree in personnel management from The University of Memphis.
Tom Helldorfer joins the D.A.’s staff as a criminal investigator. Helldorfer recently retired as a sergeant from the Memphis Police Department after serving there for nearly 30 years. Helldorfer worked as a detective in the homicide bureau for more than ten years helping solve hundreds of criminal homicide cases in Memphis. He also has been serving as a National Basketball Association security representative to the Memphis Grizzlies, providing security for the team. Helldorfer earned a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement from The University of Mississippi. He is a graduate of the Memphis Police Department Training Academy and the National Forensic Academy at The University of Tennessee Law Enforcement Innovation Center in Knoxville.
David F. Lytal has been appointed special agent in charge of the West Tennessee Violent Crime and Drug Task Force – 30th Judicial District. Lytal most recently served as the U.S. Program Director for the International Law Enforcement Academy in Bangkok, Thailand. Prior to that, Lytal spent 10 years working for the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). While with the DEA, Lytal served in several key drug enforcement roles, including unit chief of the Office of Foreign Administration and Personnel at the DEA headquarters in Arlington, Virginia; field supervisor in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Hanoi, Vietnam, and Memphis; and special agent in Denver and Chiang Mai, Thailand. Lytal served three years as an agent for the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, based in Jackson and three years as a state trooper in the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Lytal earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from The University of Mississippi and speaks both Thai and Vietnamese. Chris Ford has been appointed as an administrator overseeing the implementation of the office’s new case management system and the management of support staff. Ford has 15 years of retail management, music and electronics experience. He is a graduate of The University of Arkansas.
