Jury Convicts Memphis man For Deadly Shooting at Apartment Complex

MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Friday that a jury convicted a Memphis man for murder for a 2003 deadly shooting at an apartment complex.

The jury found Brandon Johnson, 22, guilty of first degree murder in the perpetration of attempted aggravated robbery. Johnson will be sentenced to life in prison.

Johnson shot the victim, Richard McCuin, 20, one time in the chest on March 10, 2003 after the two were involved in an argument. The altercation and shooting happened inside an apartment located at 2454 Ketchum Road near Airways. McCuin was transported to The Med where he later died. Memphis homicide detectives charged Johnson on March 12, 2003.

The charge of first degree murder is covered under the D.A.’s “No Deals” policy on violent crimes, which also applies to juveniles. Exceptions are made to policy for legal or ethical reasons.

Assistant District Attorneys Ray Lepone and David Pritchard prosecuted this case. Lepone and Pritchard are assigned to the D.A.’s Gang and Narcotics Prosecution Unit.
