First Degree Murder Indictments In Two Deadly Shooting Cases

MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Wednesday that the state Grand Jury for Shelby County has indicted two men on first degree murder charges for separate, unrelated deadly shootings.

The Grand Jury indicted Antonio Driver, 20, of Rossville, Tennessee for first degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping.  Driver is charged with shooting and killing his former girlfriend, 17-year-old Cassandra Flemming, on April 16, 2005 at an apartment located on Tillman in the Binghampton area.

Driver is being held at the Shelby County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

The Grand Jury also indicted Curtis Deshun Beechem, 20, for first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, attempted especially aggravated robbery, and attempted aggravated robbery.  Beechem is charged with shooting and killing a store clerk on July 12, 2005 during a robbery attempt at the Mapco Express on New Allen Road.

Beechem is being held at the Shelby County Jail without bond.

Tennessee law states a person convicted of first degree murder shall be punished by death, imprisonment for life, or imprisonment for life with possibility of parole.

First degree murder is a charge covered by the District Attorney’s “No Deals” policy on violent crimes.
