Jury Finds Memphis Man Guilty of First Degree Murder for Stabbing Wife to Death
MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Friday that a jury had sentenced a Memphis man to life in prison without parole for stabbing his wife to death in 2006.

The jury found Darnell Hubbard, 50, guilty as indicted for first degree murder.

In the middle of the night on June 12, 2006, Lexie Hubbard’s 12-year-old daughter heard a scream coming from her mother’s bedroom. When the young girl ran into the room, she witnessed Darnell Hubbard pull a knife out of her mother’s chest. The defendant ran out of the house and one of Lexie Hubbard’s sons chased him for about a mile. Memphis police arrested Darnell Hubbard shortly afterward. The medical examiner concluded the victim had ten major stab wounds and several minor cuts.

Darnell Hubbard had prior felony convictions for aggravated assault and voluntary manslaughter.

The charge of first degree murder is covered under the D.A.’s “No Deals” policy on violent crimes. Exceptions are made to the policy for legal and ethical reasons.

Assistant District Attorneys Amy Weirich and Carrie Shelton prosecuted this case.
