MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Thursday that the state Grand Jury for Shelby County had indicted a former Memphis City Schools employee and a the owner of a motor repair shop for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from the city school system.
The Grand Jury indicted Randle Taylor, 54, and Clyde Green, 49, each for theft of property over $60,000. According to the indictment, between January 1, 2003 and June 30, 2005, a sum of more than $60,000 was obtained from the Memphis City Schools without the schools consent. The indictment is the result of an audit of the Memphis City Schools by the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury. Phil Job of the Division of Municipal Audit in the Comptroller's Office headed the audit. Taylor was a city schools zone supervisor. He has since been terminated. Green owns Green Electric Motor Works.
Both defendants surrendered on Wednesday to the Shelby County Jail. Each was released from jail on his own recognizance. An arraignment date has not been set. Theft of property over $60,000 is a class B felony which carries a standard sentence of 8 -12 years in prison. Assistant District Attorney Steve Crossnoe, who is assigned to the D.A.’s White Collar Crime Unit, is handling this case. |
