Grand Jury Indicts Former Memphis Pastor for Sexual Assault Charges
MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Friday that the state Grand Jury for Shelby County had indicted a former Memphis pastor on multiple sexual assault charges.

The Grand Jury indicted Steven Haney, 47, for rape and two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure.

According to the indictment the assaults allegedly happened between September 1, 2001 and December 31, 2006.

Haney was a pastor at Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

Haney was arrested on July 12, 2007. He is out of custody on $25,000 bond.

Rape is a class B felony, which carries a standard sentence of 8 - 12 years in prison. Sexual battery by an authority figure is a class C felony, which carries a standard sentence of 3 – 6 years in prison.
