MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons announced Thursday that the state Grand Jury for Shelby County had indicted an employee for the United States Postal Service in Memphis for official misconduct.
Officers took James Hodges, 53, into custody on Wednesday. Memphis police arrested Hodges in November and charged him with attempted kidnapping, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was out of custody on bond for those charges when the Grand Jury returned the indictment Tuesday for two counts of official misconduct, a class E felony.
According to the indictment, the alleged offenses occurred between May 1 and October 1, 2007.
Hodges posted a $5,000 bond for the official misconduct charges. He is scheduled to appear on January 24, 2008 in Criminal Court Division 2 for the official misconduct charges. Hodges is also scheduled to appear on December 18, 2007 in General Sessions Criminal Court Division 12 for the attempted kidnapping charge, and on January 4, 2008 in General Sessions Criminal Court Division 10 for the drug charges.
The standard sentence for official misconduct is one to two years in prison. |
