Shelby County District Attorney Appoints Experienced Attorneys to Team of Prosecutors
MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County District Attorney General Bill Gibbons announced this week the appointment of seven new assistant district attorneys to the office’s team of prosecutors.

Assistant District Attorney Bill Bright has been appointed to serve as the chief prosecutor in the District Attorney’s White Collar Crime Unit. Bright joins the Shelby County D.A.’s Office with a wealth of experience handling fraud and economic crime cases. He most recently served as a staff attorney with the Tennessee Office of the Comptroller of the Treasury. In that role, Bright served across the state as a special district attorney to assist in the prosecution of cases involving public corruption and theft of public funds. In Shelby County, Bright assisted in the prosecution of former daycare owner Annie Adams and cases involving theft of public funds from Memphis City Schools. Bright also served as an assistant in the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office and an assistant in the Public Defender’s Office in Pulaski, Tennessee.

“With his experience in the Comptroller’s Office, Bill Bright has a unique ability to follow a complex paper trail to determine whether misconduct has occurred. We are very fortunate to have him in the district attorney’s office,” said District Attorney Gibbons.

Bright earned both an undergraduate degree and law degree from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Assistant District Attorney Byron B. Winsett, III is a new prosecutor assigned to Criminal Court. Winsett is an experienced trial attorney who most recently worked in private practice focusing on criminal defense law in both state and federal court. He also previously served as an assistant in the Shelby County Public Defender’s Office and held the position of vice president and general counsel for Winsett-Simmonds, Inc., a cable television contracting business. Winsett earned an undergraduate degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi and a law degree from Tulane Law School in New Orleans.

Assistant District Attorney Abby Wallace is a new prosecutor assigned to Criminal Court. Wallace also joins the Shelby County D.A.’s Office with a great deal of trial experience. She most recently served as a deputy district attorney for the Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Wallace earned an undergraduate degree from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville and a law degree from University of Denver College of Law.

Assistant District Attorney Ann Schiller is a new prosecutor assigned to General Sessions Criminal Court. Schiller most recently worked in private practice as a bilingual attorney. She earned both a bachelors degree and a law degree from The University of Memphis. Ann is fluent in Spanish.
Assistant District Attorney Melissa Boyd is a new prosecutor assigned to General Sessions Criminal Court. Boyd earned a bachelor’s degree from The University of Memphis and a law degree from The Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at The University of Louisville.

Assistant District Attorney Katherine Ratton is a new prosecutor assigned to General Sessions Criminal Court. Ratton earned a bachelor’s degree from The University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas and a law degree from The University of Iowa College of Law in Iowa City.

Assistant District Attorney Miranda Baker is a new prosecutor assigned to General Sessions Criminal Court. Baker most recently worked as an associate attorney for The Frager Law Firm, PC. She earned both an undergraduate degree and law degree from The University of Memphis.

“We are very fortunate to add so many talented attorneys to our staff. These new prosecutors will help us better serve the public by holding true to our office’s mission of seeking and achieving justice by pursuing the guilty and protecting the innocent,” D.A. Gibbons said.
