Man Indicted in October Shooting Death

MEMPHIS – February 4, 2016 - A 20-year-old man has been indicted on first-degree murder charges stemming from the shooting death of another man last fall in Whitehaven, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Thursday.
Curtrell Chatman is charged with killing Akeem Wilkins, 22, who died from multiple gunshot wounds on Oct. 13 last year at 3245 Eastwind Drive in the Peppertree Apartments.
Investigators said the two men had been talking and that when Wilkins turned to walk away Chatman shot him in the back. They said Chatman then chased Wilkins and fired additional shots at him.
Chatman is being held in the Shelby County Jail without bond.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Karen Cook, Lead Prosecutor, Division 10.
