MEMPHIS – March 10, 2016 - A second man was convicted of first-degree murder Wednesday in the 2014 shooting death of a man who had advertised his car for sale on Craigslist, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Martiness Henderson, 19, was convicted in the death of Larry Wilkins Jr., who was killed the night of March 9, 2014, outside his residence in the Sycamore Lake Apartments at Sycamore View Road and Raleigh LaGrange Road.
Henderson was convicted of first-degree murder in the perpetration of a robbery and was automatically sentenced to life in prison by Criminal Court Judge Paula Skahan.
Henderson’s cousin, Brandon Vance, 23, was convicted of the same offense in February and received the same sentence.
A third defendant, Walter Collins, 19, is awaiting trial. He is the brother of Vance.
Investigators said Henderson and his codefendants arranged to meet with Wilkins after seeing his black Ford Mustang advertised on Craigslist. Their plan, however, was not to buy the car but to steal it.
Henderson shot Wilkins, a FedEx employee, six times in the back, investigators said.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Attys. Pam Stark and Sam Winnig.
