Man Who Attacked Jogger Indicted on Kidnap Charges

MEMPHIS – April 26, 2016 - A man accused of attacking a woman jogger last year near Tom Lee Park was indicted Tuesday on aggravated kidnapping charges, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Lepear Grissom, 32, is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $85,000 bond.
Investigators say Grissom struck the 36-year-old woman in the side of the face with his elbow as she was jogging around 9 a.m. last Sept. 5 in Martyr’s Park on Channel 3 Drive near Riverside Drive.
When she fell to the ground he began punching her in the face and chest and then grabbed her by the hair. Grissom began pulling her toward a wooded area, but the the woman’s screams attracted the attention of witnesses who came to her aid. Grissom escaped in a car, but other witnesses got a description and his license tag.
He was arrested two days later around 2:30 p.m. at Main and Peabody.
