Teen Indicted in Murder, Robbery Last Year

MEMPHIS – November 9, 2016 - A Memphis teen was indicted Tuesday on felony murder charges in the shooting death and robbery of 50-year-old man last year in southeast Memphis, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Marquavious Coats, 17, who is being held in the Shelby County Jail, was indicted on charges of murder in the perpetration of a robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The victim, Jorge Robles Cruz, was shot and killed on Nov. 18, 2015, in the 3600 block of Durrand Drive where witnesses said they saw the shooter going through the victim’s pockets. His wallet and phone were taken in the robbery.
A witness to the murder and robbery told police that Coats pointed his gun at him, placing him in fear for his life. Coats was 16 at the time of the crime.  A second suspect at the scene has not been arrested or identified.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Greg Gilbert.
