Woman Indicted in Death of Man Killed by Assault Rifle

May 25, 2017 – A 21-year-old woman was indicted on first-degree murder and other charges for allegedly firing an assault rifle from the car she was driving, killing one man and endangering two others, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Jimmiko Driskell, who also was indicted on two counts of attempted first-degree murder, is being held without bond at the Shelby County Women’s Jail East.
The victim, Alvino Johnson, 39, was killed around 2 a.m. on Sept. 3 last year in the 200 block of Leath Street near Poplar Avenue. Investigators said Driskell drove up to a group of men outside a house on Leath, drove a short distance down the street, stopped and then opened fire on the men with an AR15 rifle she had on her lap.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Karen Cook, chief prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Unit (SPU) in Criminal Court Division 8. The SPU seeks maximum sentencing for repeat felony offenders.
