Woman Indicted in Stabbing Death, False Reporting

July 25, 2017 – A grand jury Tuesday indicted a 38-year-old woman on first-degree murder charges in the stabbing death last year of her boyfriend whose body was not discovered until more than a week later, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Defendant Ariane Stokes also was indicted on filing of a false report, claiming that cuts to her hand sustained during the murder were inflicted by someone who she said had assaulted her.
She is being held in the Shelby County Jail East.
The stabbing death of Dennis Jackson, 34, occurred around Dec. 4, 2016, in the 700 block of North Montgomery Street near Jackson Avenue in North Memphis.
On Dec. 15, family members of Jackson’s asked Memphis police officers to check on him because they had not heard from him in more than a week. Officers discovered Jackson’s decomposing body in the living room where he had been stabbed multiple times in the back, neck and other parts of his body.
Stokes was detained when she came out from a back room at the home.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Meghan Fowler of the DA’s Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit (DVPU) which handles felony cases of domestic assault and homicide committed by intimate partners.
The DVPU also works closely with the Shelby County Family Safety Center to provide services and assistance to victims and their families.
