Woman Pleads Guilty to Stealing Nurse’s Identity

Oct. 31, 2017 – A former Bartlett woman who fraudulently worked as a registered nurse for more than two years by using a South Carolina nurse’s credentials pled guilty Monday to identity theft and impersonating a licensed professional, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Raquel Hayes, 36, now of Murfreesboro, was sentenced to two years of probation for the two felony guilty pleas she entered just before she was to be tried in Criminal Court.
Investigators said that between June of 2013 and July of 2015, Hayes worked as a nurse at several health care locations around Shelby County by using the credentials of a nurse in South Carolina whose first name also is Raquel.
Further investigation showed that colleges Hayes listed on her resume had no record of her having received a degree in nursing or in any other field.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Attys. Stephanie Johnson and Ryan Thompson.
