July 27, 2018 – A South Memphis man has been indicted on first-degree murder charges related to the shooting death of another man in a holdup last year, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Friday.
Charles Person-Gibson, 37, also was indicted on murder in the perpetration of a robbery, especially aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated robbery and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on July 12 last year in the 1200 block of East McLemore when Person-Gibson approached Adrian Ivory, 24, and another man with a pistol pointed at both of them, investigators said.
As one victim ran to his car to retrieve his own handgun, Person-Gibson shot Ivory in the stomach and began going through his pockets, investigators said. The victim who had retrieved a gun then shot and wounded Person-Gibson, who was treated at a hospital and then taken to jail.
Person-Gibson has three prior aggravated robbery convictions.
The case is being handled by Special Prosecution Unit (SPU) Chief Prosecutor Karen Cook and SPU Asst. Dist. Atty. Abby Wallace of Criminal Court Division 8. The SPU seeks maximum sentencing for repeat felony offenders.
