Man Indicted in Murder of Friend

Aug. 6, 2018 – A 28-year-old man has been indicted on first-degree murder charges in the shooting death last year of a friend in southeast Memphis, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Monday.
Defendant Tarance Coleman II told police he had driven to a work site last Oct. 25 in the 3700 block of Knight Arnold with his father and a co-worker, Marcus Nelson. He said that soon after they arrived, Nelson “mean mugged” him, prompting Coleman to pull a handgun from beneath the driver’s side and shoot at Nelson.
Nelson, 22, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
The case is being handled by Alanda Dwyer, chief prosecutor of the DA’s Special Prosecution Unit (SPU) in Criminal Court Division 7. The SPU seeks maximum sentencing for repeat felony offenders.
