Aug. 6, 2018 – Four men have been indicted on attempted first-degree murder charges stemming from the severe beating of an Arkansas couple last year on North Main Street in Downtown, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Monday.
The defendants include Tony McKinney, 30, Torris Looney, 39, Jeffrey Hargreaves, 35, and Antoine Neely, 26. In addition, McKinney and Looney were indicted on charges of especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual battery.
Investigators said the Arkansas man and woman were walking in the early-morning hours of Oct. 27 last year Downtown when they exchanged words with four men they encountered in the area of North Main and Exchange.
An argument turned physical and the man and woman were hit, kicked and stomped. Investigators said surveillance video also showed McKinney picking up the unconscious woman and carrying her to the area of Poplar and North Main where she later was found face down on the ground with her pants pulled down.
Both victims were hospitalized in critical condition.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Gavin Smith of the DA’s Special Victims Unit which prosecutes cases of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of child victims; rape and aggravated rape of adult victims, and abuse of elderly and vulnerable adults.
