Grand Jury Indicts Man on Murder Charge

Nov. 7, 2018 – A Memphis man was indicted Tuesday on first-degree murder charges in the shooting and beating death of an acquaintance following an argument earlier this year, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Defendant Iran Westbrook, 35, also was indicted as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held on $500,000 bond.
Westbrook is accused of shooting and beating 30-year-old Michael Draper around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2018, outside a residence in the 1200 block of Tunica St. in North Memphis.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Kevin McAlpin of the DA’s Special Prosecution Unit which seeks maximum sentencing for repeat felony offenders.
