Nov. 14, 2018 – A 41-year-old man was indicted Tuesday on second-degree murder charges in connection with the beating death last year of his girlfriend, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Defendant Steven Kirtley is being held on bond of $500,000.
He is charged in the death of Jennifer Clarkson, 41, who was found beaten to death shortly after noon on Dec. 14, 2017, in a car in a parking lot in the 1200 block of Getwell near Rhodes Ave. south of Park.
Witnesses told investigators that Kirtley had beaten and choked the defendant during the previous days. The medical examiner ruled that she died of blunt force trauma to the abdomen.
The case is being handled by the DA’s Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit which prosecutes felony cases of domestic assault and homicide committed by intimate partners.
The Unit also works closely with the Shelby County Family Safety Center to provide services and assistance to victims and their families.
