Man Indicted in Baby’s Gunshot Death

Nov. 15, 2018 – A southeast Memphis man has been indicted in the shooting death of his girlfriend’s 1-year-old daughter last year, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Thursday.
Shawn Moore, 27, was indicted on reckless homicide charges in the death of baby Robbin Keefer, as well as aggravated child neglect, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun and tampering with evidence.
Police said the incident occurred on Nov. 10, 2017, in a bedroom at an apartment on South Mendenhall just north of Winchester Road. They said Moore had a pistol in his waistband and was seated on the side of a bed when the baby’s mother put her down.
Moore told investigators he put the pistol down on the bed within reach of the baby’s 3-year-old brother who also was in the bedroom. Moore said he forgot about the pistol and that moments later he heard a gunshot.
Moore said he then heard the children’s mother shouting the boy’s name and saw the baby with a gunshot wound to the head. The baby died later at a hospital.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Jose Leon.
