Man Indicted in Murder, Attempted Murder Case

Dec. 3, 2018 – A grand jury has indicted a Whitehaven man on charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder for allegedly killing one man and trying to kill another during a dispute in August, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Monday.
Defendant Darrington Chatman, 25, who is being held without bond, also was indicted on charges of employing a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
The shootings occurred on Aug. 10 near Whittington and Carnes in Orange Mound where police found 32-year-old Christopher Finley dead of multiple gunshot wounds and another man, also 32, critically injured by a gunshot.
The case is being handled by Karen Cook, chief prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Unit (SPU) in Criminal Court Division 8. The SPU seeks maximum sentencing for repeat felony offenders.
