Jan. 14, 2019 – A Frayser man has been indicted on first-degree felony murder charges in the 2017 beating death of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Defendant Tareynton Rogers, 25, also was indicted on aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect. He is being held without bond.
On Sept. 30, 2017, police were called to a residence in the 3200 block of Markley Street where they found Anthonisha Edwards unresponsive and covered with bruises on her head, neck and chest. She also had a large knot on her forehead.
Rogers told police he struck the small girl several times for taking too many juices.
The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Eric Christensen and Asst. Dist. Atty. Dru Carpenter of the DA’s Special Victims Unit (SVU) which prosecutes cases of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of child victims; rape and aggravated rape of adult victims, and abuse of elderly and vulnerable adults.
SVU reviews child-victim cases with Shelby County’s multi-agency Child Protection Investigative Team.
