Woman Indicted in Partner’s Stabbing Death

Feb. 19, 2019 – A 49-year-old woman has been indicted on second-degree murder charges in the stabbing death of her 66-year-old boyfriend last year at a residence in southeast Shelby County, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Defendant Decrese Beverly is being held on $500,000 bond at the Shelby County Women’s Jail East. She had been living with the victim for about two months.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office investigators said victim Wesley Johnson was found on a couch, dead of two stab wounds to the abdomen, on Oct. 5, 2018, at a residence in the 5300 block of Twisting Ridge Cove.
Deputies said there was no sign of forced entry and that a large silver knife was found near the victim.
Beverly was developed as a suspect and was arrested later in Pine Bluff, Ark., with the assistance of the local police.
The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Muriel Nolen of the DA’s Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit which prosecutes felony cases of domestic assault and homicide committed by intimate partners.
The Unit also works closely with the Shelby County Family Safety Center to provide services and assistance to victims and their families.
