Karis Felix Williams, 54, also was placed on the Sex Offender Registry and on Community Supervision for life following his plea before Criminal Court Judge James Lammey Jr.
Investigators said that on Aug. 13, 2017, Williams was seen on surveillance video knocking on doors in the Camilla Towers apartments. When one 73-year-old resident opened her door, Williams forced his way inside, hit her in the head and dragged her to a bedroom where he raped her.
Police arrested Williams later that day outside the apartments wearing the same clothes and shoes as seen in the video surveillance tape.
Williams served prison time in Texas for an aggravated assault conviction in 1999 and returned to Memphis in 2016.
The case was handled by Asst. Dist. Attys. Lessie Rainey and Cavett Ostner of the DA’s Special Victims Unit which prosecutes cases of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of child victims; rape and aggravated rape of adult victims, and abuse of elderly and vulnerable adults.
