October 27, 2011- A Shelby County jury in Criminal Court Division Four convicted Lawrence Key, age 35, on two counts of aggravated robbery. It was Key's third strike, and he is to serve life in prison without possibility of parole.
Key was arrested on May 31st, 2010 and charged after investigators identified him as the primary suspect in the robbery of a man and a woman while parked in Obrian Park in the 1700 block of South Prescott.
Information at trial revealed that Key approached the victims while they were in their car. Key broke out the driver’s side window and robbed the driver of personal items, while an accomplice held the female passenger at knife point.
Key has pled guilty to four earlier robbery offenses. Under the state’s repeat violent offenders (“Three Strikes”) law, Key was automatically sentenced to serve life imprisonment without parole.
Assistant District Attorney Pam Fleming prosecuted the case.
