MEMPHIS - May 23, 2014 - The mother of a 12-year-old Millington girl who died from gangrene and infected bedsores has been indicted on first-degree murder charges, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
Raven Ruth’s indictment was returned by a grand jury in February, but could not be made public until her extradition to Shelby County from New Orleans.
Ruth, 36, is being held without bond on charges of first-degree murder in the perpetration of aggravated child neglect in the 2012 death of young Andrea Ruth.
The child’s father, Errol Johnson, 42, and a home-health aide, Chasara Jones, 41, face the same charges.
The young victim suffered from asthma, hypertension and obesity, but the defendants neglected or ignored her medically fragile state and her need for medical care, an investigation revealed.
The case was investigated by agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and will be prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Special Victims Unit (SVU).
