The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is staffed with law enforcement officers commissioned by the State of Tennessee.
The primary mission of the CID is to provide investigative support to the Assistant District Attorneys assigned to the ten divisions of Shelby County Criminal Courts and the Shelby County Grand Jury.
Investigators conduct special investigations as directed by the District Attorney General. Investigators also serve subpoenas, execute search warrants and collect and submit evidence associated with criminal cases. Investigators are tasked with locating witnesses, conducting interviews and taking statements in criminal cases. Investigators work closely with the D.A.’s Victim/Witness Unit to ensure that victims and witnesses are informed and present for hearings and trials.
