Daetrus Pilate, 41, was convicted in February of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and intentionally evading arrest in a motor vehicle. He was sentenced by Criminal Court Judge Lee Coffee.
He led officers on a chase on Aug. 16, 2011, as they were trying to serve an arrest warrant charging him with rape of a child and other charges.
The chase was captured on one deputy’s dashboard camera, including the moments when Pilate pulled into a driveway in the 6000 block of Whisper Valley, but then turned sharply. Pilate drove through the front yard and ran over the foot of deputy Toby Shaw. The officer fired at Pilate as he sped away, striking the fleeing fugitive in the shoulder. Pilate was arrested a short time later.
The case was handled by assistant district attorneys Katie Ratton and Abby Wallace.
Pilate is scheduled to be tried Sept. 8 on child rape and other charges.
