MEMPHIS – A Millington-area man convicted this weekend of raping a young girl has been sentenced to 25 years in prison with no parole, Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich said Monday.
A Criminal Court jury on Saturday convicted Cassidy Johnson, 29, of fondling and raping the girl between August of 2009 and March of 2011, beginning when she was six years old. The incidents occurred at his residence on Moonview Road near Millington.
By law, Judge W. Mark Ward automatically sentenced Johnson to 25 years in prison without the possibility for parole. The defendant also must register as a sex offender and was placed on community supervision for life.
Johnson, a construction worker, also is charged with fondling a nine-year-old girl who was a witness in the case. Charges of abusing a witness will be tried separately.
Johnson is being held in the Shelby County Jail.
The case was handled by assistant district attorneys Terre Fratesi and Cavett Ostner of the Special Victims Unit (SVU).
The SVU prosecutes cases of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse of child victims; rape and aggravated rape of adult victims, and abuse of elderly and vulnerable adults.
SVU reviews child-victim cases cooperatively with Shelby County’s multi-agency Child Protection Investigative Team.

MEMPHIS, TN - November 22, 2013 - Calvin Douglas (age 19) has been convicted of shooting at several people after he ended up on the losing end of a fight last year in North Memphis, Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich said.
Calvin Douglas was convicted by a Criminal Court jury on three counts of aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment.
The incident occurred on March 7 last year near Pope and Pershing where Douglas was involved in a fight with another man.
After losing the fight, Douglas left and returned with a pistol and began firing at the man, at the man's girlfriend and at the girlfriend's 4-year-old sister. Douglas also fired several times at the man's older brother.
Douglas was arrested later that day, taken to the hospital for injuries from the fight and then was identified in a photo spread by the man at whom he fired his gun.
Assistant district attorneys Nicole Germain and Omar Malik said Douglas fired about 15 times, but that no one was injured.
Douglas will be sentenced Dec. 16 by Judge W. Mark Ward.
