The Tennessee Legislature passed law §40-32-101(g) on July 1, 2012, which allows citizens to petition for expungement of certain conviction records. However, not every crime is eligible for expungement.

The document below includes an inclusion list, exclusion list and criteria that must be met to start the petitioning process. Once completed, this checklist and the required documents must be given to the General Sessions Court Clerk or Criminal Court Clerk.

You do not need to hire an attorney for assistance with expungement. Our office has a designated prosecutor to handle these cases.
