Demonte Isom Found Guilty of First-Degree Murder in 2022 Death of Eugene Keefer

Today, a jury found Demonte Isom guilty of First-Degree Murder in the September 2022 fatal shooting of Eugene Kiefer near the Memphis airport.

During the trial, the State presented multiple witnesses and surveillance video that captured the moments leading up to the shooting. The footage shows Demonte Isom approaching Eugene Keefer alongside two other males. Isom brandished a firearm and pushed Keefer, who did not retaliate or display any aggression.

One of the men accompanying Isom then went to the passenger side of Keefer's vehicle and opened the door. As Keefer leaned into the driver's side to speak to him, Isom shot Keefer four times. After the shooting, Isom was seen jogging away and spitting in Kiefer's direction as he lay dying.

A witness testified that Isom later entered a vehicle and threatened an occupant, telling her to "shut up or he would shoot her too." Two eyewitnesses confirmed that Isom was the shooter.

The jury returned a guilty verdict after just one hour of deliberation. Sentencing for Isom will be scheduled soon.

ADAs Caleb Sanders and Haden Lawyer tried the case.
