Man Convicted of Molesting Young Girl
May 26, 2022 – An East Memphis man was convicted Wednesday of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl over a period of nearly a year, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
A Criminal Court jury convicted Tyler Hemmingway of aggravated sexual battery after a three-day trial. His bond was revoked and he was taken into custody following the verdict.
He will be sentenced June 27.
According to testimony, Hemmingway blindfolded and sexually abused the child in his home in the 4400 block of Quince Road on more than one occasion between September of 2018 and July of 2019.
The case was prosecuted by Asst. Dist. Attys. Devon Dennis and J.D. Hamblen.
ADA Dennis is with the District Attorney’s Special Victims Unit which prosecutes cases of child sexual and physical abuse, elder abuse and vulnerable adult abuse. The Unit is an expansion of the multi-agency Child Protection Investigative Team or CPIT.
ADA Hamblen is with the DA’s Vertical Team 5 which prosecutes cases in General Sessions Division 13 and in Criminal Court Division 9.
