Motorist Indicted in Pedestrian’s Death
Aug. 26, 2021 – A driver who appeared to be racing another car in traffic when he lost control and killed a pedestrian last year in the Parkway Village area has been indicted on vehicular homicide charges, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
The driver, Andrea Spencer Jr., 25, is free on $5,000 bond.
The incident happened around 5 p.m. on April 15 last year when Spencer and another vehicle were driving at a high rate of speed going west on Winchester Road. Investigators said the cars were weaving through traffic, but that Spencer lost control just east of Goodlett Road, left the roadway, hit a light pole and then struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, Breann Bonds, 23, pushed a friend out of the way before she was struck, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Two small children in the back seat of Spencer’s vehicle were not injured.
The case is being handled by Felony Asst. Atty. Regina Thompson of the District Attorney’s Vertical Team 3 which handles cases in General Sessions Division 11 and in Criminal Court Division 3.
