Party Crasher Indicted in Murder Case

Aug. 18, 2021 – A man who crashed a birthday party in February at a Frayser apartment and allegedly shot one of the guests has been indicted on murder charges, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.

A grand jury indicted Cordareo Vaughn, 32, on a count of second-degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held on $120,000 bond.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Feb. 27 this year on Vayu Court in the Breezy Point Apartments where several men crashed a birthday party. When the hostess turned off the music and asked the men to leave, they began throwing liquor bottles at some of the women.

During an argument that followed, Vaughn allegedly produced a long gun and fired several shots at the hostess’s cousin, 30-year-old Alvin Cross, who was struck in the chest.

Cross collapsed on the floor where he was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.

Vaughn was developed as a suspect and was taken into custody in April.

The case is being handled by Senior Felony Asst. Bryce Phillips and Felony Asst. Ryan Thompson of the District Attorney’s Vertical Team 5 which handles cases in General Sessions Division 13 and in Criminal Court 9.
