Husband Indicted in Woman’s Death

June 23, 2022 – A Frayser man has been indicted in the shooting death of his wife following an argument earlier this year in their home, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.

A grand jury indicted 56-year-old Roy Ezell Jones on a count of first-degree murder. He is being held without bond.

Investigators said that shortly before 4 p.m. on Jan. 3, 2022, Jones and his wife, Juanita Jones, 49, were arguing in a bedroom of their home in the 2000 block of Burnham Ave.

A minor family member in another room heard a gunshot and said Roy Jones came in and said, “I did a bad thing.” Jones then fled in a family vehicle. He surrendered to police a week later.

The case is being handled by Asst. Dist. Atty. Cavett Ostner of the District Attorney’s Domestic Violence Unit which prosecutes cases involving assault and homicide committed by intimate partners.
