Juvenile Indicted in Parkway Village Homicide

June 1, 2022 – A Memphis teenager has been indicted in the shooting death and attempted robbery of a man last year at a Parkway Village service station, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.

A grand jury indicted Jaylen Jordan, 17, on counts of first-degree murder and attempted especially aggravated robbery. He was transferred after a Juvenile Court hearing earlier this year and is being held on $350,000 bond.

The incident occurred shortly after noon on Sept. 30, 2021, at a service station and convenience story on South Perkins and Cottonwood Road. Investigators said Jordan, then 16, and a companion accosted Roberto Lopez-Cruz and attempted to rob him as he exited his car.

When the victim resisted, Jordan shot him several times. Lopez-Cruz, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Jordan’s accomplice was handled in Juvenile Court.

The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Theresa McCusker of the District Attorney’s Vertical Team 1 which prosecutes cases in General Sessions Division 7 (Veteran’s Court) and in Criminal Court Division 1.
