Shooting Suspect Indicted in Homicide
June 1, 2022 – A 22-year-old man was indicted Tuesday in the death of an acquaintance who was shot repeatedly after the two had words in February outside a convenience store in the Northaven area of Shelby County, said Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
The grand jury indicted Cameron Westbrook on first-degree murder charges. He is being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail.
Sheriff’s detectives said the shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 8, 2022, at the Penny Pantry Store in the 4900 block of Breckenwood Drive.
Surveillance video showed Westbrook follow the victim, Andre Harwell, 30, into the store and then out of the store. After a brief argument, detectives said, Westbrook pulled a handgun and shot Harwell multiple times.
The video showed Westbrook walk away, but then return and shoot the unresponsive victim several more times.
Westbrook was arrested nine days later.
The case is being handled by Senior Felony Asst. Sarah Poe and Asst. Dist. Atty. Christopher Burt of the District Attorney’s Vertical Team 4 which prosecutes cases in General Sessions Division 12 and in Criminal Court Division 4.
