Juvenile Indicted in Robbery, Murder
May 30, 2022 – A 17-year-old high school student has been indicted in an ambush shooting death last year at a Frayser service station where the shooter then drove off in the victim’s car, said Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich.
A grand jury indicted Marc Lynn Thomas on counts of first-degree felony murder and especially aggravated robbery. He is being held on $750,000 bond at Shelby County Jail East.
An investigation showed that around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 14, 2021, Malik Gibson, 20, drove up to a pump at a service station in the 3700 block of North Watkins. He entered the store and when he came back to his car a gunman, identified as Thomas, approached and shot him in the head, neck, chest and left arm.
Surveillance video showed Thomas then removing car keys from the deceased victim’s pocket and driving away in his two-door white Infiniti automobile. Thomas was identified, charged and arrested about a week later.
The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Stephanie Johnson of the District Attorney’s Vertical Team 2 which prosecutes cases in General Sessions Division 9 (Mental Health Court) and in Criminal Court Division 2.
