Man Found Guilty in Domestic Assault Case

After a two-day trial, William Bowers has been found guilty of aggravated assault in a domestic violence incident involving his ex-girlfriend, Dianna Johnson.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on January 30, 2022 when MPD responded to a call at Regional One Emergency Room, located at 877 Jefferson Ave. They encountered Ms. Johnson, who had sustained severe injuries, including facial lacerations and a fractured jaw, necessitating multiple stitches and surgery.

Subsequent investigations revealed that on the night of the assault, Mr. Bowers struck Ms. Johnson in the face multiple times with a pistol, during which the firearm discharged. On August 30, 2022, Ms. Johnson provided a video statement to authorities and positively identified Mr. Bowers from a photo lineup as the individual responsible for the attack.

The conviction underscores the Shelby County District Attorney’s commitment to enhancing public safety, fostering restoration and prevention, and ensuring equal justice for all. The office remains dedicated to prosecuting domestic violence offenders to the fullest extent of the law.

Sentencing for Mr. Bowers is scheduled for February 20, 2025. He faces a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
