Mother of Six Convicted of Second-Degree Murder in Husband's Death
Shelby County, TN—A jury has convicted Catonya Nelson of second-degree murder for the death of her husband, Jermaine Nelson. The verdict was delivered after a three-day trial where the State presented compelling evidence, including testimony from approximately 10 witnesses and a key piece of video evidence.
The fatal incident occurred on January 1, 2023, in the 900-block of Vance Avenue. According to police, Nelson stabbed her husband in the neck, leading to his death. The couple shared six children.
During the trial, the prosecution introduced a social media video in which Nelson, during a live stream, made statements suggesting she would stab her husband. This evidence, combined with witness testimony, played a critical role in the case against her.
Despite maintaining her innocence throughout the proceedings, Nelson was found guilty of second-degree murder.
